Long Term Follow Up

All patients must be seen 1 year following surgery to ensure good clinical function and satisfactory prosthetic ingrowth on X-ray.

The recommendations for further follow up from the Arthroplasty Society of Australia are:

  • Age under 70
    • Follow up at 7-10 years postoperatively, then at a 3-5 yearly interval after this.
  • Age over 70
    • Routine follow up is not required.

Additionally if you have a previously well function prosthesis, which has become painful, you require assessment by an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
