When should I follow up after knee surgery?

All knee surgery patients must be seen 1 year following surgery to ensure good clinical function and satisfactory prosthetic ingrowth on X-ray.

RECOMMEND LONG TERM FOLLOW UP

The recommendations for further follow-up from the Arthroplasty Society of Australia are:

• Age under 70
  • Follow up at 7-10 years postoperatively, then at a 3-5 yearly interval after this.
• Age over 70
  • Routine follow up is not required.

Additionally, if you have a previously well function prosthesis, which has become painful, you require assessment by an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
