When Can I Drive

Driving is an important part of our day to day lives and independence. Licensing Authorities do not have specific restrictions on driving post-hip or knee replacement and advise the patient to seek advice from their treating surgeon. The Arthroplasty Society of Australia provides guidelines for your safe return to driving:

  • Should be safe to perform an emergency stop, an ability which takes between 4 and 6 weeks for most patients to perform
  • Should not be taking narcotic/opiate analgesia
